We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the Netherlands.
But I love the idea of Thanksgiving.
I wish all countries celebrated Thanksgiving.
And that Thanksgiving day would be an international holiday.
I do Thanksgiving every day.
Yes, I’m one of those people.
Every night before I go to sleep I write down 5 things I’m grateful for.
I didn’t want to at first. I resisted big time.
Too fuzzy for me. I’m not one of those people, I thought.
But I did start, forced by circumstances. Desperate situations call for desperate measures sometimes.
Even the crappiest day has a silver lining if you write down the things that went well.
The things you have turn into enough. And more than enough.
I’m grateful for my health.
I’m grateful my children are healthy.
I’m grateful for a roof over my head, clothes to wear, a warm shower and a bath.
I’m grateful for clean drinking water, flowing from my tap.
I’m grateful for food as much as I want to eat.
I’m grateful for the adventures I got to experience.
I’m grateful for the beautiful people I met along the way.
I’m grateful for my friends who stick by me even when I’ve been an asshole.
I’m grateful for the sun.
I’m grateful to wake up and to be able to just get up and walk to the bathroom.
I’m grateful for safety and freedom.
Fuzzy and corny, hell yeah!
But I take fuzzy and corny over complaining and grumpy any day and twice on Sunday.
Happy Thanksgiving. Today and every day.
